Since late 1999, SPERI has conducted case studies in community of the Hmong ethnic group in Long Lan village in interaction with other 12 neighboring villages in the 'Phu Sung' watershed in Luang Prabang district.

Primary concerns of the case studies relate to customary law in natural resources management, local knowledge based ecofarming, customary law based conflict resolutions, community rights to forest and land, community enterprise, youth empowerment, herbal medicine wisdoms in biodiversity preservation, rainforestation farming and commnity healthcare.

Above case studies are supported by ICCO - the Netherlands, CCFD - France, Brot/BMZ - Germany and NLI.
