This book brings together in one collection a selection of writings expressing the views and methodological approaches of SPERI and its allies on spirit forestland, customary law and indigenous ethnic minority communities in Vietnam since 1995. The articles collected here are edited versions of articles published elsewhere as research reports or academic theses written by Livelihood Sovereignty Alliance staff.
 
Cultural based natural resources management: Ban Thapene, Luang Prabang Province, Laos. (28/03/2017)
The findings show that ethnic groups in Ban Thapene still maintain well their cultural identity, traditional practices and natural resources even though the increasing impacts from the tourisms. The study furthure give strong recommendation for local authorities to recognize these values and legitimize rights for Ban Thapene communitity to manage its traditional natural resources in collaboration with other relevant stakeholders.
 
Ma Lieng: Worshipping Ceremony for the Earthen Holy (13/09/2013)
Ma Lieng is one of the smallest in population among 53 ethnic minority groups in Vietnam. Currently, the total population of the Ma Lieng in Vietnam is approximately 1,200 people. The Ma Lieng consider the Earth (Atat) as Mother, and the Sun (Ka gum) as Father.
