Since 2010, CHESH Lao program has conducted applied researches in Hmong, Lao Loum and Khmu communities in Phon Xa Vạt village in joining with Long Lan and other 11 neighboring villages of the 'Phu Sung' watershed area, Luang Prabang district, Luang Prabang province.

The primary concerns are customary law in natural resources management, conflicts resolution based upon customary law, community rights over forestland, cultural identity preservation, community development, interest-groups networking (gardening, animals raising, savings and credits, youth empowerment through Farmers' Field School (FFS).

Research case studies are supported by the Bread for the World (Brot) - Germany.
