During the period from 1994 to 2003, SPERI has conducted case studies in communities of the Yao in Ba Vi commune, Ba Vi district, Ha Tay (Hanoi) province. The primary concerns of case studies were local knowledge in preservation of herbal medicines and cultural biodiversity in the Ba Vi National Park, the right of Yao women and community as a whole to forest and land, sustainable slopping land farming, traditional civil society promotion via herbal medicine groups and networking towards micro community based enterprises.

The above case studies were supported by the Japanese Embassy to Vietnam and ICCO - the Netherlands.
