Livelihood Sovereignty
Overview
Livelihood Sovereignty is ‘a holistic ethical alternative solution’ which consists of five inter-relative rights: 1) The right to land, forest and water, clean air and natural landscape (basic); 2) The right to maintain one’s own religion (unique); 3) The right to live according to one’s own way of life and values of happiness and wellbeing within one’s own natural environment (practice); 4) The right to operate according to one’s own knowledge and decide what to plant, initiate, create and invent on one’s own land; (holistic); and 5) The right to co-manage or co-govern natural resources with neighboring communities and local authorities (strategic).

The precursor was a group of 9 key farmers in Tan Tien and Vinh Xuan villages of Cao Quang commune under the support of the Project: "Strengthening the capacity of small-scale farmers through the agro-forestry in Cao Quang commune, Tuyen Hoa district, Quang Binh province”. The project has been facilitated by CENDI/SPERI with the financial support of SODI. |

In the morning of October 10, 2016, the consultation workshop for approval of the customary laws based community regulations in forest and forestland management, protection and development of 7 villages in the Kuangsi region – watershed of Muong Nam, Luang Prabang and Xiang Nguen districts was held. |

On 8 October 2015 a conference on “customary based Phu Sung watershed co-management” was organized in Long Lan village, Luang Prabang province. The aim of the conference is to resolve conflicts in protection forest co-governance based on customary law that has been legalized in the process of forest and land allocation facilitated by CHESH Lao since 2005. |

This seminar was held in the Human Ecology Practical Area (HEPA) in Son Kim I commune, Huong Son district, Ha Tinh province from 15 to 19 January, 2015. There are 33 participants representing for 9 ethnic groups (H’mong, Dao, Tay, Nung, Ma Lieng, Gia Rai, H’re, Ro Ngao, and Thai) from 9 provinces of Vietnam and young ecological farmers from Laos and Vietnam. |

120 participants representing for Luang Prabang, Xieng Ngan and Muong Nan district leaderships and local peoples i.e. traditional village leaders, elders and villagers from 9 villages in the Kuang Si Waterfalls region have attended the conference. Especially, Long Lan’s traditional learders and representatives from the Luang Prabang Self-Help Association also attended the conference. |

A specialized seminar on community-based land and forestland allocation (CBLFA)was held at The Forest Peoples Land Rights Network (LandNet) office on 6 January 2014. There are experts, senior staff from member organizations of The Livelihood Sovereignty Alliance (LISO) attending the seminar. |
