The communal relationship between indigenous people and land is the source of their collective identity as communities and people. During the conference indigenous peoples' representatives from over 10 Asian countries shared information about the situation with regard to communal land in their country and strategies to maintain and protect communal lands. The concluding statement will be used as input for the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues in May 2007 in New York.
